The Republic of Cote d'Ivoire is a country on the southern coast of West Africa with more than 25 million inhabitants and is part of the ECOWAS region. In this economic and political union, the free movement of people and goods using biometric identity cards has been agreed. Not only do the eIDs introduced by Cote d'Ivoire enable the physical identification of its citizens. The online establishment of identities (authentication) and digital signing (signing) are now also provided for.
Semlex (integrator) and the National Identification Office - l'Office National d'Identification - of the Republic of Cote d'Ivoire (end user).
The Coted'Ivoire government wanted to renew the issuing of its biometric identity cards (eIDs) and prepare them for eGovernment use.
Setting up an advanced production centre based on 5 Entrust Datacard personalisation systems and an Entrust Datacard Public Key Infrastructure (PKI).
Before personalising an Ivorian eID, data must be collected (from various source files and formats), merged and prepared for production. For this purpose Entrust Data Production and Process (DPP) software was selected for this purpose, which in addition to issuing, also provides the crucial auditing and reporting functionality.
For the production of the eIDs, Semlex - and thus Cote d'Ivoire - chose the Entrust Datacard MX6100 personalisation systems. These industrial machines are the most widely used for large-scale card issuance worldwide and combine unsurpassed reliability and flexibility with a wide range of technical possibilities for data entry.
Entrust Datacard Adaptive Issuance Chip Interface software. With this platform (and sub-components) the ICAO and eServices smart card applications of the Ivorian eID are managed and the cryptographic and certificate needs of chip personalisation are controlled.
In a fully integrated issuing process, which provides for both the physical and digital side of identification, Ivorian eIDs are now personalised with a capacity of approximately 50,000 cards per day. With state-of-the-art equipment, cardholder data is captured.
